The Princess Voluptia Incident I Accounts

Grakeln’s story

We boarded the cogs and set sail towards the drifting elf hanoe. We had perforce to move slowly as we were facing up river. Fortunately there was an east wind brisk enough to give us headway. The hanoe must have suspected our intent for it brought out its paddles and tried to make a dash for it. I could see the elf woman glaring at us as we moved to block her vessels way. “We are a princess of Regalia en route to our temples services! Make way for us!” she shouted.

“Fire lads!” I responded and saw two of the paddles dropped into the water.

“Shoot Silt! Get away from us you kerb crawling gutter grubs! Beware lest I turn you all back into toads!” Which is how I realised that she was a witch!

We threw a grapnel onto the back of the hanoe to stop it sneaking past but just at that moment there was an unearthly shriek. It came from the palisade tower of the far shore landing stage. It looked to be from a demon with a megaphone peering from its top. Naturally we dwarves were unaffected but the princess fell scrabbling to the bottom of the hanoe. We boarded it, driving two of them a guard and an elf lady off, to swim to the shore. “Gag her and tie her up lads!”

“This one is still alive Grakeln.” Said Sorri.

“Search him and throw him over the side with the rest. We have no need of wounded elves here!”

“Pretty poor pickings Grakeln, thirty florins between the lot of them.” Moaned Coin.

“Are we going to have this harlot undressed like this with us?” Demanded Proodi.

“Get some sacks, the coarsest you can find! We’ll dress her as an elf princess should be dressed!”

Ashore the demon was keeping his head down but the two escaped elves heading inland. Soon they were attacked by wolves, who made short work of them! We steered alongside the landing stage and knocking a couple of holes in the hanoe, pushed it off downstream.

“Dremi and Nod you take charge of the Mahaut and follow Wodengaff. Wodengaff keep Bedlow and take the two cogs back to Grossflusschaukelnundholzbruck. Tell them that the trade rout to Chogard is lost to the Chaotics. The rest of you grab the elfess and let us get marching. Those look like elf hanoes upriver so we had best be going!”

I had with me Drip, Sorri, Proodi, Grath and Coin. The demon was still quiet and I was banking on the wolves being satisfied with their present luncheon. So with Proodi pushing the elfess before him, we started to run up the track away from the landing stage. Wodengaff sailed the two cogs away back towards the Deepwater Lake. We spotted a yellow flying creature in the air nearby but it did not come close enough to threaten us. After a quarter of an hour Tegliff’s tower was in full view and I realised that no flag was flying. Remembering the lack of goods and the demon at the quays I realised that it was possible that the Chaotics might have taken the tower! “Turn right lads past this wood. I fear me that Tegliff will not be in the tower! I think we had best make our own way back to Grossflusschaukelnundholzbruck as we are.”

“It is a long way off Grakeln! Can we not go there a little slower? I joined ship service to get away from long marches!” moaned Grath

“Right you may all walk now. I think we should be safe even if those were Regalian hanoes on the River. They will probably follow the cogs.”

 Daigost and Zid

From your vantage point you saw a conflict between two cogs and a hanoe on the river which was rather puzzling. Zid tried to scare some cattle towards Houlers pack but they just collapsed with fright and Aargil’s pack had a meal from them. Zid then tried to scare scared both the hanoe and the cogs from the landing stage tower. It succeeded in that two elves were frightened into swimming ashore. As the approached their wood Houler’s pack got them. Six Dwarves from the cogs brought an elf woman prisoner ashore who they ran down the track. With his wolves disorganised Daigost felt unable to attack them with only Whailoo’s pack. However soon three more hanoes of elves came to be beached beside the landing. Zid went to scare the first without much success as Daigost massed the wolves in Houler’s wood. The elves advanced in three parties with the centre one heading straight into the wood. Zid tried his scarer against the right hand squad and succeeded in halting them for a few minutes. They could only proceed by carrying a prostrated member of their patrol. In the wood the wolves wiped out their opponents by weight of numbers. The remaining two elf patrol re-united and headed eastwards following the dwarves. “Likely they will fight and we may be able to do more damage.” Thought Daigost. “But, these wolves want only to stay and eat for a day. However I have other packs we may use. Let us go to the crag and pick up a stone apiece in the hope of dropping them on someone!”

“But first Commander Daigost let me see those boats. The training of Balyell decrees that one should never omit to play a trick against the enemy. Those boats are unguarded and I feel it my duty to send them floating downstream!”

“Very well. I expect it will be some time before the elves catch the dwarves!”

So Zid went and pushed the three hanoes off into the river. He did the same to a rowing boat lying beside the landing stage. Then he returned to the crag top to collect his hand stone. “See that tall crag over there Zid. It will be best if you move there through the flaches and I will join you by more normal movement. I have Fidah’ pack of wolves there. Not far away are Oools as well. From the top we will see what can be achieved for the cause.” So Daigost flew off, taking care not to get too close to the elves. Zid travelled through the flaches successfully to arrive at the crag top. Hardly had he arrived however when another demon materialised beside him.

“I am Springah. His Eminence the Horrub has sent me here to assist you in your war on the Lawics.” It croaked.
